Cruchon & Emmons 71078

tn_CE71078A tn_CE71078B

This compass is in many respects identical to my other Cruchon & Emmons (a 1918 Canadian military version).  This represents an early attempt at a mirrored compass. A round brass insert below an inverted Y-shaped notch serves the function as a mirror.   For daylight reading, a small notch in the end of the thumb-ring gives the user a more precise reading.

Old reddish colored paint on the cardinal points, and index line.  See my warning about Radium
