This compass was purchased in 2003 on eBay for the purpose of carrying with me during geocaching.

Specifications:

  • Manufacturer: Cammenga
  • Date of Manufacture: 2003
  • Materials:
    • Body: Cast aluminum, enameled Olive Drab
    • Crystal: plastic
    • Capsule: plastic
  • Needle: Plastic card
  • Magnet: AlNiCo
  • Damping: liquid
  • Pivot: Sapphire Jewelled bearing
  • Graduations: 360 degrees by 5, 6400 mils by 100.
  • Weight: 5.6 oz.
  • Stop: Activated by closing lens.
  • Other: Tritium capsules provide illumination with no light source required.. To demonstrate the difference between modern illuminated compasses and older models which used Radium, I tried to get the GM-10 to register any radiation coming from this compass, and was unable to.  In fact, the aluminum case appeared to cause the background radiation from elsewhere in the room to drop a couple of points.
