This is an older KB-14 unit, probably dating from the 1980s. It weighs 3.9 oz, and is very easy to use. As with all “direct sighting” compasses, you hold the compass up to your eye, and, keeping both eyes open, sight on a distant object. The image of the compass bearing is superimposed on the image of the object, and you read the bearing directly.
The “R” designation indicates that this compass has reverse bearings. These appear in red just above the black bearing graduations.
This compass is graduated to 1/2 degree. This allows estimation to either 1/4 or 1/6 of a degree, depending on how good you are at estimating thirds.
